The hockey calendar is back! This time around, it was photographed by Heidi Davies, of the Davies Reid Gallery, where for years the sharp-eyed have noticed the artful nude portraits that Davies creates in her spare time.

On Saturday, December 1, at 7 p.m., there will be a calendar release party at the Davies Reid Gallery on the town square, which will include a silent auction of individual calendar prints. Sales of the prints and calendar benefit the JH Women’s Hockey program. A small entrance fee helps pay for the hors d’oeuvres.

So who’s that cover model, anyway? Yikes.

Anthropologist, author, and National Geographic explorer-in-residence Wade Davis will speak Saturday night at 7:30 at the Center for the Arts about our shrinking “ethnosphere” — “the sum total of all thoughts and dreams, myths, ideas, inspirations, intuitions brought into being by the human imagination.” As the world’s indigenous populations dwindle, asserts Davis, our ancient understanding of the biosphere fades, to our peril.

Nippo-Rockabilly

If we’ve got nothing else going on at the Tokyo branch of The Snaz, we pull on our leather jackets and poodle skirts, head to Yoyogi Park, and cut a rug.

Brandon’s Addiction

Don’t know much about Alta, Wyoming filmmaker Brandon Gust other than what’s on his Myspace page, but he recently sent us the above trailer for his magnus skiing opus, “My Addiction,” which was mostly (or completely?) shot in the Targhee backcountry. Way to represent the other side, Brandon. Send us more!

Here at The Snaz, we’re not sure that Jackson Hole needs any more publicity as the Land of Hotties who Rip, but what you gonna do? In the next few weeks, we’ll be showing off a few of the portraits of local winter athletes that up and coming lenswoman Heather Erson has been creating in the last few months. On December 14, she’s showing all of them off at the Lyndsey McCandless Gallery here in Jackson. Should be fun. And scenic. Check back for more samples.
