Teton Boulder Project Benefit this Saturday

For almost a decade, JH locals Greg Miles, Christian Beckwith, Hans Johnstone and others have tossed around the idea of establishing a bouldering park in the town of Jackson. Recently, the Teton Boulder Project has picked up steam, and this Saturday there’s a fundraiser for the “kletter garden” to be constructed at the base of Snow King in Phil Baux Park.

Starting at 7 p.m. and costing $20, “American Alpine: An Evening with Climbing Legends Jack Tackle, Conrad Anker and Steve House” aims to galvanize our climbing community into supporting the project and ponying up a few dollars for the park, which will cost about $300,000, include several freestanding boulders and a long wall on the slope below the Snow King Center, and commemorate Teton climbing, its role in American mountaineering, and possibly local fallen climbers. The three headlining alpinists will each give slide shows, and will be joined by GTNP climbing ranger and guidebook author Renny Jackson, who will offer a history of Teton climbing. In all, it promises to be a fascinating evening, with the possible result being a world-class destination for falling off small rocks. Let’s make it happen!
